Chrome Nails
It’s the style that Hailey Bieber made famous by starting the wildly popular “glazed donut” manicure fad. Chrome nails give the conventional nail colors of your choosing a glossy update by applying a layer of metallic paint or powder. Chrome nails are the way to go if you want to experiment with raised nails without looking monotonous. The chrome nail looks very attractive when used on nails with an almond or circular form.
Reverse French
For something fun and a little Française, say bonjour to the ‘Reverse French.’ Also known as the ‘multi-colored French,’ a soft neutral nail is tipped with a color other than white to offer a vibrant twist on a much-loved favorite. This look suits nails of various lengths without overpowering the hand while echoing the season’s frisson.
Double French
Need more fresh takes on the classic French tip? Double your fun with the ‘Double French.’ One line of color outlines the direction of the nail, offering a modern and versatile yet chic look. This look would look perfect on almond or coffin-shaped nails given the shape.
Neon Brights
Look no further than neon hues for a simple yet effective pop to any outfit. A lively take on the classic, monochromatic nail, a statement fluorescent nail can amplify any company and is undeniably summery.
Contrasting French
It’s the trend we can’t say au revoir to (nor would we want to). French is the season’s trend, with the ‘contrasting French’ blending all the best elements of the adored manicure and injecting some much-welcomed color into it. Using opposite sides of the color wheel for the tips on each hand, the ‘contrasting French’ is an unexpected take on the traditional.
Cheeky Tints
I was initially exposed to this trend in Taiwan, and from what I’ve heard, it’s already rampant throughout Asia, according to Poole. The goal is to make the nail appear to be blushing. To achieve the look, lightly dab a coral lacquer on your nail’s core to give it a gentle flush that resembles rosy cheeks. Because of its airy quality and feminine color scheme, this trend is perfect for summer.
Chic Circles
Circles might be spotted on metalwork; ring handles on Chloe and Edie Parker bags, and pendants at Etro, among other places, according to Poole. The circular shape lends itself to the nail’s contour and is graphic and easy to construct, making it an excellent trend for nail art, she said of how she incorporated it into her manicure designs. She proposes using a ball headpin or the eraser tip as a DIY dotting tool to maintain consistency in the size of your circles.
Free-Form and Negative Space
Because they can be swiftly constructed, free-form negative space designs are simple, expressive, and excellent for runway use, according to Poole. She advises that go strong with the design for maximum visual impact, citing Proenza Schouler, Vera Wang, Rodarte, and Novis as brands that follow this minimalist design trend. For a simple look that is anything but plain, freehand your look with white lacquer on bare nails.
’80s Gradient
“Spring 2017 NYFW was full of color,” continued Poole. New York and London runways adorned the decade’s bold hues and distinctive shoulder pads. For the SS17 runway shows, Poole and the Sally Hansen Team provided gradient nails for both Monse and 3.1 Phillip Lim, expanding the usefulness of the ombré nail from the previous season. However, Poole recommends using an unexpected mix of teal, magenta, and hot pink to refresh the trend.
Bright Look
In addition, Poole is taking inspiration from the technicolor runways at Marc Jacobs, Fendi, and Altuzarra. Rainbow stripes are a no-brainer for summer. As Poole advises, “start with the sheerest and lightest color first when painting your nails with a striped pattern. In addition, Poole recommended “choosing 4 or 5 various hues from the ’80s revival palette and layering them by using a striping brush to produce […] random order and color”50111 for people who aren’t concerned with perfectly straight lines. You will get a painterly touch from the irregularity, and it will also hide any errors.
