A manicure is a form of self-care that many of us may justify by saying we need it. It’s an investment of time and money, certainly, but there’s something about having lovely fingernails (use your description here: long, rounded, neutral, brilliant) that makes you feel more confident and capable when facing challenges. It’s true that you can do your nails at home with some polish and some press-ons and the glue that comes with them, but a professional manicure is worth every penny if you want the whole treatment, including shape, gel extensions, and the pièce de résistance : nail art.
During the past few years, we’ve tracked the meteoric ascent of nail art and seen how popular styles have changed. Art is subjective, so there is no one color or style that is definitively “in” or “out.” But, artists, creatives, and industry professionals have forecasted a few entertaining designs that will be really-trendy in the coming year. Go through the following 2023 nail art trend report for ideas to take with you to your next consultation. Visit the Maby blog to discover the most trending nail today.
Hunter green
Actress-turned-skin-care founder Scarlett Johansson recently remarked in an interview that she is “very enjoying” the dark green manicure. Johansson wore a dark green polish on her nails, which is easily replicated with a coat of paint. Apply two coats of polish for maximum shine; if your nails are short, you may want to attempt the “Italian” painting technique. So, when you next get your nails done, simply select the deepest shade of jade or hunter green from the wall.
Chrome
Chrome metallic paints, one of the top five fall beauty trends, have made their way to our fingernails. Designed by Holly Falcone (follow her for inspiration), this manicure features Ingenue by Orly, a purple and gold duo chrome, which retails for $10 but looks considerably more upscale when applied to almond-shaped nails. Droplet manicure
The “amoeba nails” of nail artist Sojin Oh were commissioned by Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, while the “koi fish nails” of Normani’s were constructed of jelly. These 3D gels are getting increasingly popular, and her customers travel to her particularly for them. People are beginning to see that [3D art] is not as scary as it first appears, Oh says. Instead of looking like simple nail paint, the designs “appear like miniature sculptures on your hands.”
Glazed-Doughnut nails
The manicure that has everyone inquiring about Hailey Bieber was discussed in a recent interview with R29. There are two reasons why followers have dubbed this style “glazed doughnut”: The high-gloss finish was chosen as a nod to Bieber’s skincare line, and also because it evokes a thin layer of icing. ‘I do one tiny application of a color and then I brush chrome dust over it,’ Bieber explains. That’s what my manicurist, Zola, says. If you want chrome nails, visit a salon and have a thin coat of sheer polish applied (OPI Funny Bunny is your best bet) and then dip your nails in chrome dip powder (such as OPI’s Tin Man Can).
Blue art
Several contemporary painters favor blue hues right now, making it a good choice if you’re seeking for the “it” color. Queenie Nguyen, a nail artist, claims that “50 hues of blues” will be popular in 2023, and she has just built a negative-space design using a cobalt blue OPI polish to reflect this trend. It has a soothing effect and revives the senses at the same time.
Embellished French
“French manicures with embellishments are currently trending worldwide. Imagine a French manicure, but in a vibrant hue and with some additional design features. This style is a great way to give your nails a little something extra.” – Emily H. Rudman, CEO and Founder of Emilie Heathe.
Bright swirl
“Swirls on nails will likely remain trendy all until 2023. It’s lively and adaptable, able to be subdued when rendered in earth tones or exuberant when rendered in primary hues. This style is versatile enough to be used at any time of year by simply changing the colors.” Nail Artist and Creator of Facile Nails – Alexa Liberatore.
Hoops & charms
“Manicures in 2023 will feature an abundance of wacky extras like hoops and nail ornaments. We don’t always put function before style when it comes to our fingernails. Picking out a nail art pattern that you can’t wait to show off will bring you nothing but smiles and compliments.” – Chaun Legend, Celebrity Nail Artist & Lottie London Artist in Residence.
Combo art
“It’s a huge deal that each nail features a unique design. Nail decals, press-ons, and hand-painted art will all coexist in one manicure, as will a wide variety of bright colors and patterns. People are free to express their imaginations since the possibilities are limitless.” – Liberatore
Hot red
“A fresh manicure in a vibrant hue like hot pink or red may inject some much-needed joy and vitality into anyone’s day. Many of my customers have told me that doing their nails has been a bright spot in these trying times. Many of my clients look forward to their monthly “nail day.” These are amazing people who are able to keep going despite the challenges they face because they reward themselves with the small pleasure of gorgeous nails.” Sparkle SF Salon was founded by Mia Rubie, a professional nail artist.
Two-toned French
“One easy approach to upgrade your nail game is to get a two-toned French manicure. It’s neutral enough to work with a wide range of hues.” – Brittney Boyce, Celebrity Nail Artist and Founder of Nails of L.A.
Confetti glitter
“In 2023, I’m crossing my fingers that glittery confetti styles become popular. They are perfect for celebrating any occasion or theme, and they are always a good time. Since 2022 was all about subdued hues, I’m crossing my fingers for something bright and cheery this time around.” Rebecca Ludwig, Educator and Professional Nail Artist.
Pink & black
“When lads break the mold and don pink, it makes my day! It’s a fantastic contrast shade that works wonderfully as a base for straightforward black nail art. I used UN/DN LAQR’s Party Favor and Depressionist shades to achieve this effect.” – Boyce.
Gradient greens
“Green gradients, representing renewal, winter growth, and the stunning tonal diversity within a single hue, are currently capturing my attention. Earlier this season, we worked on a New polish in partnership with the brilliant @sojinails, who created a surreal take on our greens by stacking Eames, Patina, Artichoke, and Compost in a swirling, three-dimensional pattern.” – Jess Hannah Révész, Founder/Designer of J. Hannah.
