Is there a yearly indicator that winter has arrived? We’re ditching the neons in favor of some nail paint tones that are more appropriate for the season. We’re talking about the perfect shade of polish to show off your fingers when you’re wearing an oversized sweater, a flashy clutch, or, let’s be honest, your favorite pair of sweatpants. They’re like the first listen to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” but for your nails; the happiness they provide is palpable even when they’re covered by gloves.
Now that the season has arrived, we asked our editors to reveal the colors they most look forward to donning. There are the standard wintery colors like Christmas red, glitters, and dark berries that are excellent for winter nail designs, but there are also some unexpected colors, like the one an editor choose for her recent engagement manicure. Here are the top nail polishes for the upcoming winter months. Visit the Maby blog to discover the most trending nail designs today.
The Hermès hands gray etain metal enamel nails
The recent rise of goth-girl fashion has inspired me to wear even darker colours than normal this winter. Although I am not yet daring enough to sport all-black fingernail polish, I do find this gunmetal metallic to be both stylish and suitably festive for the Christmas season – The senior beauty editor, Ariana Yaptangco.
Elixir, an orly breathable treatment and color polish
During the colder months, I enjoy trying out new colors that I wouldn’t often wear. Something about this time of year makes me want to go all out with sparkles and metallic tones like silver. Maybe it’s the Christmas spirit, maybe it’s the impending futuristic feelings of the New Year. In the winter, I like to drink Orly’s Elixir because it makes me feel like a modern snowflake or snow-woman queen – Associate beauty editor, Danielle Sinay.
In sea clay, a polish by jin soon
Whenever I’m in the mood for something a little different, I prefer to take a break from the norm and try something new. I think this soft blue will look great with my all-black winter ensemble – A.Y.
Scarlet essie gel couture polish
A stunning red pigment or nail paint is as iconically “holiday” as any other color, and Essie’s Scarlet Starlet is the perfect choice for the season. The iridescent and pearly texture of this polish makes it appropriate for any and all events, from the company Christmas party to the New Year’s Eve red carpet event to simply lying in bed and enjoying your nails.
No. 43 by d.s. côte
I started looking for non-toxic nail paints as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and Côte is at the top of my list. They don’t spare on pigment or quality despite being cruelty-free and free of harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and phthalates. I can’t wait to wear this mellow charcoal throughout the cold season. It’s versatile and beautiful whether finished in a high gloss or matte, as one of our contributors to the Business section, Shanna Shipin, says.
Sundays wine red, nail polish, no. 18
Some of my favorite reds of all time are made on Sundays. The pigmentation and wear time of these nontoxic formulations are extraordinary. Although No. 17 Cherry Red is my go-to color, I find that this rich berry shade adds the perfect amount of warmth to my winter clothing. The classic appeal is there without any unnecessary “madame.” – Senior Business Editor, Talia Abbas.
Rouge puissant, a chanel le vernis
Even though my nails are short, I feel more festive with a coat of red polish, and I enjoy wearing it all year round. This red lacquer is excellent for the red carpet because it is more sophisticated than my go-to cherry shade without crossing over into wine territory. Chanel nail paints are well worth the investment; not only do they last for a whole week without chipping, but each application feels like a special treat – Author and beauty expert, Bella Cacciatore.
Gucci dorothy turquoise, a nail polish
My go-to nail polish colors are red and robin’s egg blue. My go-to color is often a pastel blue, but this year I’ve decided to step it up a notch and try out this bright turquoise hue. When I look down at my hands, I can’t help but be pleased by the contrast with the rest of my all-black ensemble. And Gucci is a plus. It’s as stylish as it gets. Toes Rock, Baby! by O.P.I. You Have No Idea Until you see it in this pouty tone, Jacques Taupe may look mild. In the words of contributor Deanna Pai, “it’s dark enough to feel like a mood, but more chic than the average Hot Topic-era black.”
Essie frostbite and nail polish
This color is fantastic. It’s baby blue with pink and purple accents that make it feel inviting and dazzling, and it reminds me of a garment a figure skater might wear. It’s like a baby shower and a disco from the 1980s had a baby – Contributor, Jenny Singer.
OPI in dressing to impress
I like the added dimension of shine that this bluish-purple glitter provides. It’s giving me a sense of the supernatural and the sea, which suits me as a double water sign – Contributed by Erin Parker. In addition, please refer to: List of 2023’s Top OPI Polishes to try on.
